According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Heat have signed Mario Chalmers to a 10-day contract.
The Heat have been hit extremely hard by health and safety protocol issues, hence the franchise using another hardship exemption to sign a player. And they're certainly familiar with the newest addition, as Chalmers began his NBA career in Miami and won two NBA titles with the franchise. As for when he'll be able to play in a game, that is up in the air. The first game of Miami's seven-game road trip (Wednesday vs. San Antonio) was postponed due to the Heat's COVID-19 issues, and the team also had to cancel Thursday's practice. Miami is scheduled to visit the Rockets Friday night.
Mario Chalmers said in an interview with Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype that he's eyeing an NBA comeback.
“I definitely think I can still help a team, especially with my resume," Chalmers said. "I have a lot of knowledge since I’ve been to four NBA Finals and won two NBA championships and a college national championship. I just feel like I can provide a lot of knowledge to a young point guard and be a mentor. That’s the role that I’d come back to the NBA and be, so I’m open to it if it happens.” His career went downhill fast after tearing his Achilles back in 2016, and so far we've yet to hear of any teams express an interest in the 34-year-old veteran.
Chalmers agreed to a deal with AEK Athens of Greece on Friday, Sportando.com reports.
Chalmers signed with Virtus Bologna of Italy in March and will now make his way to Greece. The 33-year-old hasn't played in the NBA since the 2017-18 season with Memphis.
Chalmers agreed to a deal with Virtus Bologna of Italy on Friday, Emiliano Carchia of Sportando reports.
The 32-year-old will take his playing career oversees after being unable to attract any NBA teams in the 2018-19 season. A return to the NBA at some point in the future is not out of the question, however.
