Isaiah Briscoe

Briscoe has been out since early March due to right knee surgery, and the Magic will opt to let him go to make a roster spot for Michael Carter-Williams, who has signed for the rest of the season.

Briscoe consulted with doctors over the weekend, and the decision was made to undergo the procedure, which will address damaged cartilage in his knee. The team hasn't released a timetable, but the rookie figures to miss several weeks, likely putting him out for the remainder of the regular season. After beginning the year in a minimal role, Briscoe had worked his way up to the backup point guard spot and was averaging 22.6 minutes over his last 10 games before the injury.

Briscoe is still holding out hope that his injury may be able to heal with the help of physical therapy, as it would offer a much quicker return to action. His status for the near future will become more clear after determining the best course of action.

Briscoe was a late addition to the injury report Friday and an MRI revealed that the point guard has a small torn meniscus. He is still being evaluated, so a timetable is yet to be determined, but with Briscoe likely facing an extended absence, Jerian Grant is expected to step back in as the team's backup point guard.
