ESPN’s Shams Charania reports De’Aaron Fox will undergo season-ending surgery on his left pinkie.
Charania’s report said that the surgery will take place on Tuesday and will expedite his recovery for next season. Fox suffered the injury during training camp and had been playing through it all season. Over the Spurs’ final 18 games of the regular season, Stephon Castle should slide into the starting lineup and have a chance to strengthen his case for Rookie of the Year. Fox averaged 19.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 1.5 steals in 34 minutes across his 17 games with San Antonio this season.
De’Aaron Fox had 32 points (12-of-25 FGs), nine rebounds, 11 assists, one steal and two 3-pointers in the Spurs’ 126-116 victory over the Mavericks on Wednesday.
De’Aaron Fox recorded 22 points (8-of-12 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), two rebounds, three assists and four three-pointers in 27 minutes in Sunday’s loss to the Timberwolves.
De’Aaron Fox had 16 points (6-of-17 FGs), four rebounds, eight assists and one steal against the Kings on Friday.
Fox was traded to the Spurs prior to the trade deadline after he and the Kings failed to agree on a contract extension. On Friday, the 27-year-old point guard struggled in a matchup against his former teammates. Fox had 16 points on 17 shots as he shot 35 percent from the floor. It was an off-night, but Fox has been solid overall since the All-Star break as he ranks just outside the top-50 in fantasy value in that time.
