David Nwaba is expected to be waived by the Thunder in order to make room for Isaiah Joe.
Nwaba came over in a trade from Houston and will have to try to land with someone else once the Thunder cut him.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Thursday that the Thunder have traded Derrick Favors, Ty Jerome, Moe Harkless, Theo Maledon, and a 2025 2nd from Atlanta to Houston for David Nwaba, Sterling Brown, Trey Burke, and Marquise Chriss.
This may be the furthest thing from a blockbuster deal, but it helps get OKC $10 million under the luxury tax while acquiring two trade exceptions, and Houston got a second-round pick for only taking on $1 million in cap space. This move was simply about moving money around for these teams. Nwaba was solid for Houston two years ago, but his role dwindled last season. Now, he'll get a fresh start in OKC, but it probably won't result in a huge role. Leave him off your draft board, though he could make an impact later in the season if OKC benches all of their starters again.
David Nwaba scored a season-high 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting (2-of-2 3-pointers) to go with one rebound, one assist, one block, and one steal as the Rockets lost to the Pelicans 130-105 on Sunday.
The Rockets got run out of the gym on Sunday so Nwaba got to get some garbage buckets in this one. He made the most of his minutes though, which is all you can ask of him, so props to him. Needless to say, he is not a fantasy target. Jalen Green chipped in 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting (2-of-5 3-pointers) with four assists, two rebounds, one steal, and four turnovers in 27 minutes. The Rockets will play the Suns on Wednesday looking to get off of a two-game slide.
David Nwaba went for nine points, eight rebounds, two steals, an assist and a triple as Houston lost 123-99 Monday to Charlotte.
Nwaba played well in his first start of the season, teasing a double-double and adding a pair of swipes for good measure. He came into this one averaging 4.3 points and 3.8 rebounds across 12.1 minutes on the season, and even as a starter, his upside is quite limited.
