Alex Bowman is one of 10 active drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series with a win at a track of 2 miles in length. The 29-year-old driver etched his name on this list after taking home his second career victory at Auto Club Speedway in March 2020.
Since then, he has tallied five more wins: Richmond Raceway (April 2021), Dover Motor Speedway (May 2021), Pocono Raceway (June 2021), Martinsville Speedway (October 2021) and Las Vegas Motor Speedway (March). 2022 RECAP: Through 22 races in the 2022 Cup Series season, Bowman is currently ranked 12th with 541 regular season points. Across those appearances, he has totaled one win (Las Vegas), three top-five finishes, nine top-10s and six playoff points.
Alex Bowman will pull double duty at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course. He will run in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in the #17 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet on Saturday and the #48 Ally Chevrolet in the Cup Series on Sunday.
While this is the first time Bowman will get behind the wheel of the #17 Chevy for Hendrick Motorsports, he is no stranger to extra seat time, running for Spire Motorsports at Circuit of The Americas in March and Sonoma Raceway in June in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Bowman has the ninth-best average finish of active drivers on road courses in the Cup Series, with an average finish of 14.91 after 22 starts. He matched his career-best road course result with a second-place showing at COTA in March – this finish came after making laps the day before in the Truck Series. His other road course runner-up finish came at the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL in 2019.
#48 Alex Bowman finished 11th in Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) M&M’S Fan Appreciation 400 at Pocono Raceway.
He started 17th in the lineup and completed all laps of the 160 run. He is currently 11th in the NCS point standings, 251 points behind leader Chase Elliott after this race.
