Jake Eder

Eder was acquired at the trade deadline from the Marlins in the Jake Burger trade and figures to reach the majors at some point during the upcoming 2024 campaign. The 25-year-old southpaw struggled a bit recently in the Arizona Fall League, but he was always going to be shielded from next month’s Rule 5 Draft. He’s worth monitoring in the upper minors at the outset of next year.

Eder was traded to the White Sox this summer in exchange for slugger Jake Burger. The left-hander was brilliant and rising up prospect lists before undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2021. He didn’t pitch in 2022 and has struggled with his command since returning to the pitching mound in early June. So far in Arizona, the lefty has a 3.24 ERA but a terrifying 1.80 WHIP and 8.6 BB/9 across three starts. He will need to find that above-average command he showed before undergoing surgery before he is a consideration for the White Sox rotation but due to his performance in the past, he will likely be added to Chicago’s 40-man roster this winter.

Eder was a highly-regarded pitching prospect in Miami’s system a couple years ago before undergoing Tommy John surgery back in 2021. The 24-year-old left-hander has looked sharp this season in his return and represents an interesting gamble for the White Sox, who didn’t exactly have a permanent spot on the infield for Jake Burger, despite his immense offensive numbers.

Eder has been working his way back from Tommy John surgery and the team has yet to announce what caused Eder's foot to end up in a walking boot. Before the Tommy John surgery, the then 22-year-old had a 1.77 ERA, and 99/27 K/BB ratio across 71 1/3 innings for Double-A Pensacola. Hopefully, the boot is removed soon and the lefty can get back on a mound.
