Mariners recalled RHP Casey Legumina from Triple-A Tacoma.
Legumina gives the Mariners some depth in their bullpen, and he’ll replace Luis F. Castillo on the roster; with Castillo being optioned to Triple-A on Thursday.
Mariners optioned RHP Casey Legumina, C Blake Hunt and INF Leo Rivas to Triple-A Tacoma; reassigned C Harry Ford and LHP Brandyn Garcia to minor league camp.
No real surprises here. It’s worth noting for dynasty purposes that Ford put together an impressive spring in Cactus League action, batting .421 (8-for-19) with one homer and three steals in 12 contests. His fantasy value tanked last year in the upper minors, but his athleticism is unparalleled at the catcher position.
Mariners acquired RHP Casey Legumina from the Reds for cash considerations.
The Reds designated Legumina for assignment last week and were able to spring him to the Mariners for cash. The 27-year-old had an 8.68 ERA, 1.82 WHIP, and a 7/2 K/BB ratio in 9 1/3 innings. However, in 58 1/3 innings at Triple-A Louisville, Legumina posted a 3.24 ERA and 57/18 K/BB ratio. The Mariners designated Jhonathan Díaz for assignment in a corresponding move.
Reds designated RHP Casey Legumina for assignment.
The Reds needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster to make the Austin Hays signing official on Thursday and Legumina drew the short straw. The 27-year-old hurler made six appearances at the big league level with the Reds in 2024, registering an underwhelming 8.68 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and a 7/2 K/BB ratio over 9 1/3 innings. It seems likely that he’ll pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as extra bullpen depth for the Reds.
