2025 Player Outlook

There's a chance we see Schultz in 2025, but there's also a chance that Chicago doesn't start his clock until 2026. Schultz is a dominant left-hander who will warrant all of your attention when he gets the call, but 2025 could serve as a year where Chicago builds up his workload, seeing as he's thrown just 27, and 88.1 IP over the last two seasons in professional baseball. He's someone worth sprinting to the waiver wire to pick him up when he gets the call, but he's likely not someone you'll be drafting, as it's very, very, very unlikely he opens the year with the big-league club.

One of the top pitching prospects in baseball, Schultz checked in at 131 overall in Rotoworld’s latest dynasty rankings update. The towering 21-year-old southpaw looked extremely impressive in his spring debut, averaging 97.3 mph on his sinker during an eight-pitch frame. He boasts astronomical strikeout potential and has a decent shot at arriving in the majors sometime around midseason after posting a 2.24 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 115/24 K/BB ratio across 88 1/3 innings (23 starts) last year between High-A Winston-Salem and Double-A Birmingham.

Schultz is considered the top left-handed pitching prospect in baseball, and he was able to register an impressive 115 strikeouts over 88 1/3 innings with a 2.24 ERA before being shut down with a shoulder impingement. The 2022 first-round pick could make his debut in 2025, but he’s more of a 2026 play in terms of fantasy relevance.
