Padres selected McQueen HS (NV) LHP Robby Snelling with the 39th pick of the 2022 MLB Draft.
Snelling is considered one of the higher-upside arms in this class, so it’s not surprising to see him land in the first round. He’s also committed to play football at LSU, so that’s something to keep an eye on. He’s less about projection than some of the other pitchers in this class, as Snelling can get his heater up to 97 mph with the build you’d expect from someone who has played linebacker at high level (as well as quarterback). His curveball is his best pitch, and it has the type of spin and depth to be a 70-grade offering on the 20-80 scouting scale if he can stay on top of it. He needs to develop a third pitch -- his change is well below-average right now -- and show he can throw enough quality strikes, but Snelling can be a strong fantasy option if those things come to fruition.
