Reds signed first-round selection INF Cam Collier.
Collier, who won't tun 18 years old until November, is one of the youngest players in the entire draft class. He's reportedly agreed to a $5 million bonus, which is well above-slot ($3.659 million) for the 18th overall selection in the 2022 MLB Draft. He projects as a potential power-hitting corner infielder, but is obviously a long way from the majors.
Reds selected Chipola JC (FL) JC INF Cam Collier with the 18th pick of the 2022 MLB Draft.
An absolute steal. Collier is one of the youngest players in this class after reclassifying from the 2023 draft, and won’t turn 18 until November 20. He’s also considered one of the better bats in the class because of his smooth stroke from the left side, and he has a chance to hit for average with power potential that is at least above-average and could be more as he gets stronger. He’s a solid defender at third, and he could also play the outfield in either of the corner positions with his strong throwing arm. Collier is going to need a few years before he’s ready, but a third baseman who can hit for average and pop will make him worth the wait if things work out.
