Wilyer Abreu went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and a walk Tuesday as the Red Sox routed the Blue Jays 10-2.
Abreu didn’t start against lefties Saturday or Sunday before Monday’s scheduled day off, but no layoff has been a problem for him this year. He’s up to six homers and 21 RBI through just 110 plate appearances, and his .963 OPS places him 11th in the majors.
Wilyer Abreu is not in the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Guardians.
Abreu has been left off Boston’s lineup card to open Sunday’s series finale with lefty Logan Allen taking the ball for Cleveland. The 25-year-old slugger blasted a three-run homer — his fifth round-tripper of the season — during the opening contest of Saturday’s doubleheader. It’ll be lefty-mashing veteran Rob Refsnyder in right field on Sunday afternoon.
Wilyer Abreu walloped a three-run homer in the opening contest of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Guardians.
Abreu was left standing in the on-deck circle in the ninth inning when Trevor Story – with the tying run at third base to end the contest. The -year-old outfielder took Guardians starter Ben Lively deep in the opening frame for his fifth round-tripper of the season. It wound up being his lone hit in three at-bats, although he did draw a walk in the contest. He’s an extremely underrated fantasy contributor at this stage of his career considering his immense power upside.
Wilyer Abreu went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in a loss to the White Sox on Sunday.
Abreu launched a 387-foot home run in the bottom of the first inning to erase an early deficit. It was his fourth home run of the season and gives him 15 RBI on the year as well. Abreu would also register a 102.7 mph line out in the game and, perhaps more importantly, remained in the lineup when the White Sox brought in a left-handed reliever as manager Alex Cora has opted not to be strict in his platooning of Abreu this season.
