Wilyer Abreu went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in a loss to the White Sox on Sunday.
Abreu launched a 387-foot home run in the bottom of the first inning to erase an early deficit. It was his fourth home run of the season and gives him 15 RBI on the year as well. Abreu would also register a 102.7 mph line out in the game and, perhaps more importantly, remained in the lineup when the White Sox brought in a left-handed reliever as manager Alex Cora has opted not to be strict in his platooning of Abreu this season.
Wilyer Abreu went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored on Friday against the White Sox.
It can not feel good to get blown out by the lowly White Sox. Abreu did all he could though as the only member of the Red Sox lineup to come around and score. Despite his red-hot start at the plate, he’s sat in two of Boston’s last seven games and only one of which came against the left-handed pitcher. There’s genuine fear he cedes some playing time to either Masataka Yoshida or possibly Roman Anthony eventually if he’s missing games in favor of Rob Refsnyder at the moment.
Wilyer Abreu went 1-for-1 with a walk and an RBI single in Boston’s 5-4 extra-inning win over the Cardinals on Sunday.
Abreu was getting a day off to rest his legs after missing much of spring training with a gastrointestinal illness; however, he checked in as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning and drew a walk. He would then come up again with two runners on in a tie game in the 10th inning and lace a single off the Green Monster to give the Red Sox a 5-4 win. Abreu is now slashing .522/.645/.1,000 with nine RBI on the season. Congrats to you if you drafted him at his depressed price. The results won’t always be this good, but the 25-year-old will be a real asset to fantasy teams when he’s facing a right-handed pitcher.
Wilyer Abreu is out of Boston’s lineup for Game 1 of the doubleheader, but he will start the second game Sunday night.
The Red Sox still haven’t said what’s wrong with Abreu, who was scratched from Saturday’s lineup before the game was postponed. Rob Refsnyder is in right field for the first game today.
