Huascar Brázoban will start today’s game as an opener for the Mets.
With Griffin Canning dealing with an illness, Brázoban will get the call in what figures to be a bullpen game. Brázoban has been good to start the season, allowing one run on six hits in 11 1/3 innings with nine strikeouts and two walks. He has not thrown more than 2 1/3 innings in any appearance so far this season, so the Mets will hope to get two or three innings from him today and then finish the game with the rest of the bullpen.
Huascar Brazobán recorded a two-out save in the 11th inning of Wednesday’s contest against the Marlins.
Brazobán got the call to protect a one-run lead with the tying and go-ahead runs on-base in the 11th inning on Wednesday’s marathon against his former team and managed to get out of the jam. He got Jonah Bride to fly out to right field before freezing Otto Lopez to end it. The 35-year-old figures to be used in high-leverage spots, but is unlikely to garner more than a handful of save chances over the course of the year.
Mets recalled Huascar Brazoban from Triple-A Syracuse.
Brazoban is up to take the roster spot of Paul Blackburn, with Blackburn going on the injured list with his hand injury. Brazoban provides middle-inning depth.
Mets optioned RHP Huascar Brazoban to Triple-A Syracuse.
The 34-year-old right-hander was picked up from the Marlins just before the trade deadline. Brazoban made nine appearances out of the Mets’ bullpen, posting an uninspiring 6.30 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and a 10/7 K/BB ratio over his 10 innings of work. He’ll continue to function as extra bullpen depth at the Triple-A level.
