Tigers released INF David Hensley.
Hensley has been cut loose after getting off to a rough start this season at Triple-A Toledo, going 4-for-47 in 15 games. The versatile 29-year-old, who has gotten into 69 games in the majors over the last four years, will search for a new opportunity elsewhere.
Tigers signed INF David Hensley to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
It’s not the former Astros’ infielder that most Tigers’ fans were hoping to sign this week, but Hensley has developed into a capable utility option and should add solid depth for the Tigers. The 28-year-old slashed .212/.293/.288 with one homer, four RBI and a 17/6 K/BB ratio in 58 plate appearances with the Marlins during the 2024 campaign.
Marlins sent INF/oF David Hensley outright to Triple-A Jacksonville.
Hensley is now off the 40-man roster. The 28-year-old provides the ability to play in the infield and outfield, but doesn’t hit enough to be more than organizational fodder.
Marlins optioned David Hensley to Triple-A Jacksonville.
With Vidal Bruján and Derek Hill coming off the IL, there was no room for Hensley on the active roster. The 28-year-old has hit .212/.293/.288 in 23 games for the Marlins with one home run, one steal, and a 29.3 percent strikeout rate.
