Cam Booser was credited with his first career save for working a flawless 10th inning Sunday against the White Sox.
Kenley Jansen pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings today, striking out five in the process, and wound up with a victory. Booser, a 32-year-old who left baseball for four years in his twenties, has a 3.80 ERA in 20 appearances since making his major league debut Apr. 19. He struck out two before getting a fly to left to end today’s game.

Booser will join Boston’s relief mix for Friday’s series opener against the Pirates at PNC Park. The 31-year-old journeyman southpaw has been excellent this season for Triple-A Worcester, posting a 2.70 ERA, 0.60 WHIP and 15/1 K/BB ratio across 6 2/3 innings (four appearances). He figures to pitch in middle relief moving forward.

Booser, who stepped away from baseball for four years before joining an indy team in 2021, has impressed with a high-90s fastball, a 2.25 ERA and an 8/0 K/BB ratio in eight inning this spring. He should be in the running for a spot as the second lefty in Boston’s pen.

Booser is back with the Red Sox as extra organizational relief depth after compiling a serviceable 4.99 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 66/24 K/BB ratio across 57 2/3 innings (48 appearances) this past season for Triple-A Worcester. The 31-year-old journeyman southpaw has yet to reach the majors.
