Mariners optioned OF Dominic Canzone to Triple-A Tacoma.
Canzone went 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts over two games with Seattle after being called up earlier this week. The 27-year-old will head back to the minors to allow the Mariners to bring up some infield depth.
Mariners recalled OF Dominic Canzone from Triple-A Tacoma.
Canzone gets the call to replace an injured Victor Robles (shoulder) on Seattle’s active roster fresh off a two-homer explosion on Sunday at Triple-A Tacoma. The 27-year-old outfielder has hit .208/.265/.390 with 14 homers and two steals in 370 plate appearances over 126 games in the big leagues dating back to 2023. He’s not a recommended fantasy option outside of extremely deep AL-only formats, but he’s probably going to get a chance to play regularly for at least a couple weeks.
Mariners optioned OF Dominic Canzone, INF Austin Shenton to Triple-A Tacoma; reassigned RHP Logan Evans and RHP Shintaro Fujinami to minor league camp.
No massive surprises included in the latest bath of cuts from Mariners camp. A strong spring performance by non-roster invitee Rowdy Tellez made it unlikely that Canzone would get a bench spot, especially with Dylan Moore and Ryan Bliss in the mix. Evans was on the fast-track to the big leagues last year, but the Mariners don’t have a spot for him in their season-opening bullpen, which might be one of the best in baseball.
Dominic Canzone swatted his first home run of the spring on Sunday, helping to lead the Mariners to a 8-3 victory over the Reds in their Cactus League affair.
The 27-year-old outfielder went down swinging against Brady Singer in his first at-bat on Sunday. He exacted revenge his next trip though, walloping a game-tying solo homer in the fifth inning. That would be his lone hit in four at-bats on the afternoon. He has struggled in his limited spring action with the M’s, hitting just .219 (7-for-32) with a homer and three RBI.
