Ryan missed the first two months of the season with a shoulder problem, so tonight was actually the first time all year that he’d pitched into the sixth inning. He needed just 73 pitches to get his 16 outs, even though he did walk three. Manager Dave Roberts indicated after the game that Ryan is tentatively scheduled to remain in the rotation for now, so he’s worth grabbing in leagues in which he’s available.

Ryan will make his major league debut against the Giants tonight. He’s not promised to stick around afterwards, but the decision to DFA James Paxton definitely helps his chances. The guess here is that, even though he’s probably not going to work deep into games at all, he’ll offer some mixed-league value if the Dodgers stick with him.

The 25-year-old hurler has made eight starts across three minor league levels this season, registering a 2.22 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and a 32/8 K/BB ratio over 24 1/3 innings. Even if he does get a spot start though, with the Dodgers’ injured hurlers getting ready to return it may be a one-and-done type of situation for Ryan, which limits his overall appeal from a fantasy perspective.

His exact debut isn’t yet known, but he’s expected to join a rotation that is in tatters due to a host of injuries. The 25-year-old Ryan has had some injuries issues of his own this season, missing two months with a shoulder issue, but he’s put up a strong 2.21 ERA and 27/7 K/BB ratio in seven appearances since returning to action, including five starts in Triple-A. Ryan has emerged as one of the Dodgers’ best prospects, but he’s a bit of a wild card for fantasy purposes. Still, he appears to be worth a stash at the moment.
