Pirates reinstated INF Jared Triolo off the 10-day injured list.
Triolio ended up missing just the minimum 10 days while recovering from his spine strain. The 27-year-old will be back and see time in the infield, and Tsung-Che Cheng will head back to Indianapolis to make room on the active roster.
Jared Triolo took grounders at PNC Park on Monday and is off to Triple-A Indianapolis for a brief rehab assignment.
Triolo is eligible to return from a back injury on Wednesday and could be activated then. Thung-Che Cheng, who was the callup in his place last week, will probably return to Triple-A.
The Pirates are placing Jared Triolo on the 10-day injured list and calling up Tsung-Che Cheng to make his major league debut.
Even though Cheng is off to a 1-for-14 start in Triple-A, Liover Peguero is being bypassed as the Pirates’ utilityman with Triolo out. Nick Yorke probably wasn’t considered, since the Pirates wanted someone who could play short.
Jared Triolo isn’t playing Sunday because of back soreness.
Triolo was a late scratch from a game he was due to start at shortstop. He’s day-to-day.
