Marlins claimed LHP Anthony Veneziano off waivers from the Royals.
Veneziano was designated for assignment Sunday, and the Marlins put their terrible record to good use by using a claim on the 27-year-old left-hander. He posted a 4.50 ERA over two innings in two appearances with Kansas City.

Veneziano is off the 40-man roster with the move. The left-hander will now hit the waiver wire, and teams looking for pitching depth for the final month could put in a claim. If there isn’t one, he’ll report back to Triple-A Omaha.

The 26-year-old southpaw was just brought up on Thursday, but he’ll head back to Triple-A on Saturday to make room on the active roster for Austin Nola. Veneziano has posted a 4.50 ERA, 2.50 WHIP and a 2/1 K/BB ratio over two innings in his time with the Royals this season.
