Hurter gave up six hits, walked none and struck out five. Hurter has recorded a win in each of his last three appearances, which consisted of one start and two relief outings. He has a 3.25 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 26 strikeouts in 27 2/3 innings in six appearances for the Tigers. The 25-year-old left-hander is set to face the Athletics on the road next week.

The 25-year-old left-hander punched out four batters on the evening while issuing a pair of walks. The Angels scored a run in the opening inning as Taylor Ward smacked a leadoff double and scored on an RBI single by Nolan Schanuel. They added another in the fifth as Jo Adell tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly. Hurter got just four whiffs on 80 pitches in the ballgame, registering a CSW of 25 percent. He’ll carry an impressive 3.57 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and a 21/3 K/BB ratio (22 2/3 innings) into Sunday’s matchup against the Red Sox.

Tigers’ manager A.J. Hinch confirmed after Sunday’s victory that Brant Hurter will work as a traditional starter on Tuesday against the Angels.

Hurter has worked exclusively as a bulk reliever in his four appearances with the Tigers — posting a 3.57 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and an impressive 17/1 K/BB ratio over 17 2/3 innings thus far. He has yet to throw more than 78 pitches in any of those outings though, which makes it somewhat unlikely that he’ll work deep enough to earn a victory on Tuesday.

Hurter struck out five batters on the night and didn’t walk a batter. The 25-year-old southpaw actually came on after two pitchers worked for the Tigers, coming on in the fourth inning and finishing the ballgame. Both of the runs that he allowed came on solo homers off the bat of Oswald Peraza and Aaron Judge. Hurter generated nine swings and misses on 78 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 28 percent. He’ll carry a 3.21 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and a 13/1 K/BB ratio (14 innings) into Thursday’s outing against the Cubs in Chicago.
