Tigers placed RHP Sawyer Gipson-Long on the 60-day injured list.
Gipson-Long has been able to throw bullpens in 2025, but the right-hander is still recovering from the Tommy John surgery he underwent in April. He’s expected to be an option for the Tigers after the All-Star break.
Sawyer Gipson-Long (right UCL surgery) will throw a bullpen on Friday.
Gipson-Long was impressive in his four-start MLB debut in 2023, pitching to a 2.70 ERA with a 26/8 K/BB ratio in 20 innings. He then got hurt early in 2024 and underwent Tommy John surgery in April and left hip surgery in July. The Tigers claim that he will be ready to pitch in MLB games around the All-Star break, and there’s a real chance that he could pitch his way into the rotation if he looks half as good as he did back in 2023.

Gipson-Long underwent an internal brace procedure on his right elbow last month and is expected to be sidelined until the early stages of next season. The procedural move opens up a spot on Detroit’s 40-man roster for Ryan Vilade.
