2025 Player Outlook
Across 31 starts in 2024 (173.2 IP), Bibee went 12-8 with a 3.47 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 26.3 percent strikeout rate. While he didn't use it a ton, he added a slider last year, which resulted in a .196 BAA and 29.9 percent whiff rate, so more confidence in that pitch should give him another plus weapon heading into 2025. He also dropped his arm angle a bit compared to 2023, not to mention also getting ahead of hitters with more regularity (3+ percent jump in first pitch strike rate). While Bibee likely can't be your fantasy team's SP1, he's a solid SP2/SP3 target (depending on league size) who should net 12-14 wins, an ERA in the mid-3s, and a WHIP right around 1.15 in this third season at the MLB level.
Player News
Tanner Bibee left Sunday’s start against the Blue Jays with a trainer.
Bibee came out to warm up for the sixth inning, but wound up signaling for a trainer and immediately departed the contest. The 26-year-old righty was charged with three runs — two earned — over five innings before departing. He struck out three and issued two walks. The hope for the Guardians and fantasy manager is that his early exit was merely for precautionary reasons. There should be an update on his status shortly.
Tanner Bibee allowed one run with five strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision against the Twins on Tuesday.
Bibee was sharp in this one, putting together his best start of the season. He cruised through four quiet innings, giving up just one hit until the fifth, when Ty France took him deep for a solo homer to put the Twins on the board. Bibee tossed two more scoreless innings, ending his day after seven with five strikeouts and no walks. The 26-year-old right-hander will look to build off the strong start when he takes a 4.36 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and a 25/14 K/BB ratio across 33 innings into a start against the Blue Jays in Toronto on Sunday.
Tanner Bibee held the Yankees to two runs over six innings in the Guardians’ 3-2 victory Tuesday.
It’s a more effective outing for Bibee, but he recorded just four missed swings tonight. On the other hand, his 95.5 mph average on his fastball was his season best by a full 1.2 mph, and he got 30 foul balls in the 106-pitch outing. We’ll choose to be encouraged. He’s 2-2 with a 5.19 ERA overall as heads into a home start against the Twins next week.
Tanner Bibee gave up six runs in 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Orioles on Thursday.
Bibee allowed only six hard-hit balls, but three of those turned into homers. A couple of those homers would have stayed in play in other parks (one was a homer in 15 parks, another a homer in six), but that’s not to say Bibee was good. He again lacked command, and four walks tonight gave him a 12.6% walk rate through four starts. That’s double last year’s mark of 6.2%. At least his new cutter was effective tonight. Maybe Bibbe will wind up being a disappointment this year, but it’s hard to see him remaining bad like this. He is benchable with the Yankees next on the schedule.
