Jonathan Aranda went 3-for-4 with two walks, a solo home run and three RBI against the Yankees on Sunday.
Jonathan Aranda is not in the lineup for Wednesday’s contest against the Royals.
Aranda, who is hitting .130 (3-for-23) over his last seven games, takes a seat with lefty Noah Cameron taking the ball for Kansas City in his big-league debut. The 26-year-old is hitting .154 (2-for-13) in limited opportunities against southpaws this season. It’ll be Curtis Mead at the cold corner for his first start since April 23.
Jonathan Aranda went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer to power the Rays to a 10-8 win over the Yankees on Saturday.
Aranda didn’t have a hit through his first four plate appearances and appeared to get banged up on a collision during a pop foul play. He recovered and stepped up in a big way in the bottom of the tenth, taking Yoendrys Gómez deep for a walk-off, two-run homer to win the game. The 26-year-old first baseman is off to an excellent start at the dish, slashing .367/.435/.700 with four homers and 13 RBI across 69 plate appearances.
Jonathan Aranda, Brandon Lowe and Kameron Misner are not in the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Red Sox.
Rays manager Kevin Cash has opted to stack his lineup with right-handed bats against Red Sox lefty Sean Newcomb. It’s probably time for Aranda to get some opportunities against non-elite southpaws since he’s hitting .413 (19-for-46) with three homers through 15 contests, but he’ll continue taking a seat against lefties for now.
