Tigers RHP prospect Ty Madden struck out six while allowing one run over four innings on Sunday for High-A West Michigan.
Madden, 22, allowed just one hit, and that hit was a solo homer. The right-hander was making his first ever professional start on Sunday, and it'd be tough to argue that it was anything but a success. A former Texas Longhorn, Madden slid down boards despite being considered a top 15 prospect by many, and it's the Tigers gain and everyone else's loss. He has three above-average pitches in his fastball, change and slider, and he throws those pitches as well as a slower curve for strikes. Madden doesn't look like a future top-of-the-rotation starter, but he does look like a mid-rotation option, and he's someone dynasty managers need to keep an eye on.
