Rays SS prospect Carson Williams doubled, walked twice and stole a base on Wednesday for Triple-A Durham.
Williams is a borderline elite defensive shortstop and should arrive in Tampa Bay at some point later this season. The 21-year-old former first-round pick’s omnipresent contact issues cloud his offensive forecast, but his power/speed combo ensures that he’s going to be a relevant fantasy contributor for years to come. He projects as a strong everyday big league shortstop, but might not ever make the leap to full-fledged fantasy superstar because of sub-optimal swing decisions. He’s a top-30 range prospect for dynasty purposes at the moment.
Rays SS prospect Carson Williams went 0-for-3 with a stolen base on Friday for Double-A Montgomery.
There’s a possibility Williams closes out the year as the top prospect in the fantasy landscape as he holds a robust .808 OPS with 14 homers and 28 steals this season for Double-A Montgomery. The 21-year-old shortstop has the look and feel of a five-category impact fantasy contributor since he’s cut back on the strikeouts and is excelling in the upper minors.
Rays SS prospect Carson Williams went 2-for-3 with a solo homer on Thursday for Double-A Montgomery.
Rays INF prospect Carson Williams went 4-for-4 with a homer for Double-A Montgomery on Thursday.
Williams also doubled. The 20-year-old is off to a very nice start to the 2024 campaign with a slash of .471/.500/.824 over the first four games. The 28th pick of the 2021 MLB Draft, Williams has plus power in his right-handed bat with well above-average speed as well, and on top of that pop/speed combo he is an outstanding defender at short. The question mark is the hit tool because he strikes out so much, but Williams has the tools to be a multi-category helper — one that could be in the majors by the end of 2024.
