Brewers C prospect Jeferson Quero is dealing with a hamstring issue.
Quero is currently in Arizona rehabbing the shoulder injury that caused him to miss most of the 2024 season. The 22-year-old backstop will remain at the complex in Maryville, and the hope is he’ll be able to head to Triple-A Nashville in the coming weeks. Quero is one of the best catching prospects in baseball.
Brewers optioned C Jeferson Quero, RHPs Grant Anderson, Logan Henderson and Carlos Rodriguez and LHP Grant Wolfram to Triple-A Nashville and reassigned OF Jared Oliva and C Ramon Rodriguez to minor league camp.
All of the pitchers optioned by the Brew Crew have a chance to make appearances for Milwaukee before the end of the year, but only Rodriguez is likely to make starts. The biggest name here is Quero; a catcher who missed most of the 2024 campaign with a shoulder issue, but offers considerable fantasy upside and could be be in the majors before the season ends.
Jeferson Quero, who is 10 months out from surgery to repair a torn labrum, is throwing to bases and is expected to catch in games before the end of camp.
From the sound of things, Quero could open the season on time. The 22-year-old, who was hurt in his very first game last season, is some team’s catcher of the future, just probably not Milwaukee’s.
Brewers No. 3 prospect C Jeferson Quero will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery for a torn labrum.
The 21-year-old’s expected recovery time is around nine months. This will push back any idea of the young catching prospect getting a taste of the major league for the 2024 season.
