The left-hander also walked one and struck out one in the abbreviated outing. He served up a leadoff homer to Luis Urias to begin the game, then pitched himself out of trouble after allowing two more hits in the frame. He wasn't as fortunate in the second, where the Brewers utilized four hits and a walk to push three more runs across and chase him from the game. Even with this disaster, he still sports a respectable 3.53 ERA and 1.26 WHIP on the season. He'll try to pick up the pieces on Thursday in a tough matchup against the Dodgers.

Kim struck out three batters and only issued one walk. He gave up three hit as a sacrifice fly from Yoshi Tsutsugo in the fourth inning represented the lone tally against him. The 33-year-old lefty has compiled a respectable 3.23 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 75/34 K/BB ratio across 97 2/3 innings (21 appearances, 20 starts) this season. He'll face the Brewers on Saturday night in a challenging road matchup.

So much for the thought that LHP prospect Matthew Liberatore might get a shot. Kim has been working in relief since getting activated off the injured list earlier this week, but the Cardinals need to cover some starting assignments after Jack Flaherty went down Tuesday with a right shoulder strain. Kim could get the ball Sunday at Pittsburgh.

Kim has been sidelined since August 8 with left elbow inflammation and is expected to work out of the St.Louis bullpen for the rest of the season. The southpaw carries a 3.36 ERA and 1.22 over 91 frames this season.
