Casey Schmitt has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 left oblique strain and will miss at least four weeks.
Schmitt landed on the injured list last weekend and will be out until at least mid-May. His extended absence gives David Villar some additional runway to carve out a role at the highest level in a reserve role.

Casey Schmitt went 2-for-3 and blasted his third home run of the spring on Sunday as the Giants rallied to beat the Cubs 8-6 in their Cactus League affair.
Schmitt got the Giants on the board in the second inning as he walloped a two-out solo shot off of Jameson Taillon to even the score at 1-1. He also singled off of Caleb Thielbar in the sixth inning. With the two-hit attack, the 26-year-old infielder is hitting .286 (8-for-28) with three long balls and six RBI on the spring.
