Slade Cecconi (oblique) allowed two runs on one hit in 3 1/3 innings for Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday while striking out five.
Cecconi also walked only one on the day, but both of the runners he put on base came around to score on a double allowed by the reliever that followed him. Overall, it was a pretty solid day for the 25-year-old who sat 93 mph on his fastball but topped out at 98 mph. He got lots of whiffs on the slider and curve and will look to keep that going in a few more rehab appearances.
Slade Cecconi (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday.
Cecconi suffered an oblique strain in the middle of March and opened the season on the injured list. He’ll need a few starts in Triple-A before even being considered for the Guardians’ rotation, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him activated off the IL and kept in the minors for a bit longer.
Guardians placed RHP Slade Cecconi on the 15-day injured list with a left oblique strain.
Cecconi suggested the injury a little over a week ago, so this move is procedural. There has been no set timeline for his return, but, once he’s healthy, he’s likely to get a few starts in Triple-A before the team decides if he’s ready to fill a spot in the big league rotation or not.
Slade Cecconi has a mild left oblique strain and will open the season on the injured list.
Cecconi has resumed throwing, but won’t be ready in time for Opening Day. The 25-year-old righty came over from the Diamondbacks in the offseason Josh Naylor trade and was fighting to break camp in Cleveland’s starting rotation mix. His absence is a hit to the Guardians’ depth, but it does pretty much ensures that Luis L. Ortiz and Triston McKenzie are going to break camp in the big leagues.
