2025 Player Outlook

The Cardinals handled things with Walker quite oddly last year, but yes, his .155/.239/.259 slash line through his first 67 plate appearances was incredibly underwhelming. However, he then spent nearly the next four months in the minors, where things were better for him, and then upon rejoining the big-league club, things were only slightly better than at the beginning of the year. Despite his 2024 struggles, he’ll enter 2025 with an everyday role in the St. Louis outfield, and he has 20/10 upside with a .250+ batting average. There’s room for growth in the batting average department, but he can’t strikeout 28.1 percent of the time like he did in 2024, but at the end of the day, the ABs will be there, and he’s worth taking a flier on in drafts.

Jordan Walker went 2-for-4 and hit a two-run homer in Sunday’s win over the Phillies.

Walker’s homer was a 112-mph liner, which shows what he can do when he gets the ball off the ground. He has a respectable enough .275/.351/.392 line for the season. Unfortunately, he has now gone eight straight games without attempting a steal after two successes and two failures in his first six games.

Jordan Walker is on the bench Wednesday after going 0-for-8 with five strikeouts the last two days.

Too many grounders, rather than too many strikeouts, has been Walker’s real problem, but he is hitting .263 with a .364 OBP to date. He’s just been limited to one extra-base hit, even though he’s hitting the ball plenty hard. With Walker resting, the Cardinals have Brandon Donovan in the outfield and Thomas Saggese at second bae today.

Jordan Walker went 2-for-5, clobbered a solo home run and swiped a base on Tuesday as the Cardinals dropped a heartbreaker in extra innings to the Angels.

The 22-year-old slugger opened the scoring in the ballgame with an RBI single off of Kyle Hendricks in the second inning. He then swiped third base as part of a double steal with Victor Scott II, though the Cardinals couldn’t cash him in from there. He then tagged Hendricks for a 419-foot (107.0 mph EV) solo shot in the fourth. It’s too early to say this is the breakout season that everyone has been waiting for, but Walker is off to an outstanding start, hitting .429 (6-for-14) with a homer, two RBI and a stolen base.

Jordan Walker (knee) is in right field and batting sixth on Saturday against the Blue Jays.

Walker returns to St. Louis’ lineup for the first time in nearly two weeks due to left knee inflammation. The 22-year-old top prospect figures to break camp as the Cardinals’ starting right fielder, but that isn’t quite set in stone. His Opening Day status will likely be determined by how his knee responds during the next week of game action.
