The 26-year-old right-hander also issued four walks while striking out six opposing hitters on the day. He served up a solo homer to Cal Raleigh in the opening inning, then the M’s broke the game open with three runs in the second on run-scoring knocks from Julio Rodriguez and Jorge Polanco. Meyer got eight swings and misses on 86 pitches in the game, posting a CSW of 30 percent. He’ll attempt to bounce back from this rough outing as he carries a 3.18 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and a 47/11 K/BB ratio (34 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against the Athletics.

Unreal. Meyer authored the most dominant performance of his career on Monday evening at loanDepot park, falling two punchouts shy of Ricky Nolasco’s single-game franchise record. He consistently pounded the strike zone, throwing a whopping 69 of 92 pitches for strikes, and reached double-digit strikeouts by the fourth inning of this one. He generated an eye-popping 24 swinging strikes, including 16 on his signature slider alone, and finished with a sublime 49 percent CSW. The 26-year-old former top prospect appears to be putting together a full-scale breakthrough campaign and should be rostered in all fantasy formats. He’ll carry a sparkling 2.10 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 41/7 K/BB ratio across 30 innings (five starts) into a favorable road tilt on Sunday against the Mariners.

Max Meyer allowed five hits and three earned runs with two walks and eight strikeouts over six innings in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Meyer was excellent until faltering a bit the third time around the Diamondbacks’ lineup. He’d forced 10 swings-and-misses with strikeouts over the first three innings and looked unstoppable. His slider command was perfect as it darted just below the strike zone time and time again to leave his opponents spinning. He may have leaned on that pitch a bit too much though, throwing it more than twice as much as any other pitch in his arsenal. Arizona jumped ahead after Meyer threw Corbin Carroll two straight sliders in the bottom of the zone. The first he fouled off before lacing a single on the next one. Pavin Smith homered in the next inning when similarly Meyer threw him consecutive changeups with the second getting too much of the plate. Nevertheless, it was a solid start overall for Meyer who continues to grow as a pitcher. He’s lined up for a juicy two-start week against the Reds and Mariners next week.

Max Meyer allowed just two hits and no runs with two walks and four strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings in a 5-0 win over the Mets on Wednesday.

Meyer tied his career-long outing in this one and barely faced any resistance at all. The Mets didn’t get their first hit of the game until the sixth inning when Francisco Lindor sent a single through the hole. Then, Meyer immediately forced Juan Soto to ground into a double play which immediately neutralized the threat. Otherwise, he allowed just two other base runners and never let any reach scoring position. He had pinpoint command of his slider, which he used as his primary pitch against both right-handed and left-handed hitters, and artfully worked his fastball later in counts to steal called strikes. He’ll be tested again next week in a two-start week against the Diamondbacks and Phillies.
