That means Chaparro won’t be ready for the start of the season. The injury occurred during batting practice before Saturday’s Grapefruit League contest, and he was scratched from the lineup. It may not be a long-term injury, but Chaparro won’t be back until the middle of April at the earliest.

Chaparro was scratched from Friday’s Grapefruit League lineup, and the 25-year-old was diagnosed with tightness in his oblique. He’s been excellent this spring, but a trip to the injured list to begin the 2025 season can’t be ruled out.

The injury occurred during batting practice before Friday’s game. Juan Yepez is now starting at first base for Chaparro, and Stone Garrett moves into the DH position. The severity of Chaparro’s injury is unknown, and it’s possible he’ll undergo testing to determine how much time — if any, after Friday — he’ll need to miss.
