Vinny Capra is starting at third base and batting eighth on Saturday against the Yankees.
Capra makes his second straight start at the hot corner, facing Yankees southpaw Max Fried, with Oliver Dunn on the bench. The 28-year-old went deep during Thursday’s season opener following a torrid spring where he blasted six homers in 55 plate appearances. He’s at least worthy of a speculative roster spot in extremely deep mixed leagues and NL-only formats.
Vinny Capra hit his first major league homer Thursday off the Yankees’ Carlos Rodón.
Technically, it’s Capra’s fourth big-league season, though he entered the day with a grand total of 37 career plate appearances. He hit six homers this spring to pull off an upset and claim a bench spot, and he’ll likely keep playing third against lefties in a platoon with Oliver Dunn.
Vinny Capra is starting at third base and batting eighth for the Brewers on Thursday against the Yankees.
The Yankees are starting left-hander Carlos Rodon, so the Brewers will counter with the right-handed Capra instead of presumed starter Oliver Dunn. Capra had a good spring training, hitting .292/.358/.729 with six home runs and 14 RBI in 55 plate appearances. He doesn’t figure to get enough at-bats to be on the fantasy radar for now. The full Brewers lineup is: Jackson Chourio LF, Christian Yelich DH, William Contreras C, Rhys Hoskins 1B, Sal Frelick RF, Joey Ortiz SS, Garrett Mitchell CF, Vinny Capra 3B, Brice Turang 2B.
Vinny Capra made the Brewers’ Opening Day roster.
Capra, 28, has just 37 career plate appearances at the major league level, all coming in the last three years with the Blue Jays, Pirates and Brewers. He crushed five home runs in spring training and made the team over Caleb Durbin as a reserve infielder. Capra figures to be the short-side of a platoon with Oliver Dunn at third base to start the season.
