Martin walked three and struck out three opposing hitters on the night. The Twins scratched out a run against him in the second inning on an RBI single by Ty France after Lenyn Sosa made an error that botched a double play ball and allowed Trevor Larnach to advance to third. His defense failed him again in the third as Luke Keaschall scored on a throwing error by Edgar Quero. Martin got seven whiffs on 88 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 25 percent. Now 1-3 on the season, he’ll bring a 3.95 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and a 16/9 K/BB ratio (27 1/3 innings) into Sunday’s matchup against the Athletics in West Sacramento.

The 28-year-old right-hander walked one and struck out three batters in the ballgame. Nearly all of the damage done against him came via the long ball as Lawrence Butler swatted a solo shot in the fifth inning and JJ Bleday added a two-run blast in the sixth inning. Martin got seven swings and misses on 90 pitches on the day while posting a CSW of 27 percent. Now 1-2 on the season, he’ll carry a 4.84 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and a 13/6 K/BB ratio (22 1/3 innings) into Tuesday’s matchup against the Twins in Minneapolis.

Martin cruised through most of this one against a talented Red Sox lineup. His offense opened up a big lead for him, a rarity for White Sox starters, and he did well to attack and never let Boston get back into this game. He rarely fell behind in the count and never faced a 3-0 or 3-1 deficit. His changeup forced seven swings-and-misses as his most impressive secondary pitch with his fastball and cutter mixing in enough to stay effective. The only run(s) on his ledger came in the seventh inning after he put the first two on and was pulled. He’ll look to build on this solid start next time out against the Athletics.

Not great. Martin was tagged for a pair of homers, including a two-run blast by Kerry Carpenter and a solo shot from Spencer Torkelson, which did most of the damage against him. He finished with only two strikeouts and handed out a pair of free passes. It qualifies as a letdown after delivering a quality start last week against the Angels in his season debut. He’ll attempt to turn things around on Friday when he faces the Red Sox in Chicago.
