Massey singled in the fourth inning and got to third base with only one out, but the Royals were unable to cash him in. He then bunted his way on to start the sixth inning and wound up stranded at second. Massey also singled in the ninth inning before getting stranded yet again. With his three-hit evening, the 27-year-old infielder is now slashing .206/.225/.250 on the season with zero homers, five RBI and no stolen bases.

Massey is swinging at everything right now, and it’s mostly just resulting in weak contact in the air. That was the case in the ninth inning as the tying run against Devin Williams tonight. He actually took the first pitch after Salvador Perez walked and was rewarded with a ball on an offering that appeared to be a strike. He then fouled off the next pitch and popped up the third. The Royals might need to sit Massey down for a couple of days or maybe even call up Nick Loftin (releasing Cavan Biggio in the process) to give him a look at second base.

Massey has started every game for the Royals this season and all but one of them at second base. He’s hitting .233/.261/.302 with six strikeouts and one walk in 43 at-bats. The Royals will turn to Maikel Garcia at second base on Thursday with Jonathan India at third base and Salvador Perez at DH. There is enough competition for at-bats in Kansas City this year that Massey will need to start hitting to remain an everyday player.

Massey gave the Royals a 2-1 lead in the 10th on an infield single. It’s the third RBI of the season for the 27-year-old, and he’s off to a non-descript .273/.292/.364 slash to open the 2025 campaign.
