2025 Player Outlook
Martinez saved 8-of-10 chances last season and posted a 29.5 percent strikeout rate, albeit with an 11.7 percent walk rate. His blazing triple-digit fastball should give him the inside track to early season save opportunities, with a chance to nail down the job full-time. Puk and Ginkel loom if he struggles in the role.

Justin Martinez (shoulder) is available out of the Diamondbacks’ bullpen for Friday night’s series opener against the Braves.
Martinez has been shelved since last Thursday due to shoulder fatigue, but he told reporters on Friday that he’s good to go now. We’d surely like to see him demonstrate that on the field before taking his word for it, and if a save chance arises on Friday night we should get that chance.
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said that “all indications” are that Justin Martinez (shoulder) will be available Wednesday against the Rays.
Lovullo had mentioned that Martinez was experiencing shoulder fatigue but has downplayed the issue as being anything serious. “I feel very strongly that today could be the day for him to come back.” With A.J. Puk sidelined by elbow discomfort, the Diamondbacks could certainly use Martinez back in action.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said late Tuesday that Martinez is possibly dealing with a “dead arm” phase, but believes he’s “very close” to 100 percent. The hard-throwing -year-old righty hasn’t pitched since last Thursday, but there’s been no indication that the Diamondbacks are considering sending him to the injured list. He’s expected to serve as Arizona’s primary closer with A.J. Puk (elbow) on the injured list. Some combination of Shelby Miller, Ryan Thompson and Drey Jameson are in the mix to close if Martinez is unable to answer the bell.
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters all indications are that Justin Martinez (fatigue) will be available on Tuesday against the Rays.
Martinez dealt with some fatigue over the weekend, but it doesn’t sound like a concern heading into Tuesday’s series opener against the Rays at Chase Field. The hard-throwing 23-year-old righty is expected to handle the bulk of the save chances for Arizona with A.J. Puk (elbow) likely facing an extended absence.
