2025 Player Outlook

Ober was everyone's favorite breakout arm last season, and he didn't disappoint. Sure, his ERA was a little closer to four (3.98) than many would have liked, but he also won 12 games with a 1.00 WHIP, 26.9 percent strikeout rate, and over his final 13 starts of the year, he had a 0.90 WHIP! He added a cutter to his arsenal last season, and while that pitch was hit at a .279 clip, he did manage to post a whiff rate of at least 22 percent on all five pitches, and three of those pitches were at 30+ percent. Ober has the makings of a guy who can reach 200 strikeouts this year for the first time in his career, health willing, and win double-digit games with a sub-1.15 WHIP for the second consecutive season. You can trust him as your SP2/SP3 (depending on league size).

Player News

Bailey Ober limited the Guardians to one run over 7 2/3 innings in the Twins’ 11-1 thrashing Monday.

Ober struck out only two, but he generated a ton of soft contact — the average EV of the whopping 29 balls in play against him was 82 mph — and walked no one in the 102-pitch outing. This still wasn’t Ober at his best, and he’s probably not going to get back to being especially helpful in mixed leagues unless he regains some velocity. Still, he’s not entirely without value right now. He’ll take a 3-1 record and a 4.13 ERA into Boston for his start Saturday.

The 29-year-old hurler scattered eight hits on the evening while issuing one base on balls. The lone tally against him came on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jacob Amaya in the second inning. Ober generated 12 swings and misses on 87 pitches on the night — five of them on his slider — while posting a CSW of 30 percent. He’ll attempt to log his fourth consecutive quality start as he carries a 5.04 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and a 23/7 K/BB ratio (25 innings) into Sunday’s tilt against the Angels.

The right-hander punched out five batters on the night and didn’t issue a free pass. Most of the damage done against him came via the long ball, with Pete Alonso belting a solo shot in the opening inning and Juan Soto doing the same in the fourth. He then exited with two men on and one out in the seventh inning and one of those runners ultimately came around to score. Ober got 12 swings and misses on 77 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 30 percent. He’ll attempt to further improve upon his 6.16 ERA and 1.42 WHIP when he takes on the White Sox at home on Tuesday.
