Jonatan Clase will serve as the 27th man for Sunday’s doubleheader against the Yankees.
Clase gives Toronto an extra bench bat for Sunday’s twin bill in New York. The 22-year-old outfielder has posted a strong .852 OPS with 13 steals in 22 games this season for Triple-A Buffalo. He’ll presumably head back to the minors following Sunday’s nightcap.
Blue Jays OF prospect Jonatan Clase is tied for sixth in the International League with six steals and 11th in OPS through 12 games.
It’s been a really strong start for Clase, who is slashing .382/.523/.411 in 34 at-bats. He has walked nine times and struck out seven on the season, which has led to his superb on-base percentage, and he’s making those trips on the bases count with six steals. The issue is that he’s currently blocked by Myles Straw and Daulton Varsho (shoulder) is nearing a return to Toronto as well, which will make it hard for Clase to find a spot on the MLB roster.
Jonatan Clase went 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, two RBI, and a walk on Wednesday against the Red Sox.
The Blue Jays called Clase up for the first time last week after acquiring him from the Mariners at the trade deadline and this was his second multi-hit game in five contests. It was nice to see him smack his first home run too as power has always been the weak point in his profile.
Blue Jays recalled OF Jonatan Clase from Triple-A Buffalo.
Clase will take the spot of Bo Bichette, who landed back on the IL with a fractured finger. The 22-year-old speedster could see starts in center field with Daulton Varsho also hurt and his speed would be a major factor in fantasy leagues, so this is a situation to monitor.
