2025 Player Outlook

Fitzgerald burst onto the scene from relative prospect obscurity to post a splendid .280/.334/.497 line in 341 plate appearances, but there are reasons for skepticism. First, he struck out 31.7 percent of the time and carried a below average 78.9 percent zone-contact rate. Fitzgerald also carried a .380 BABIP and a 16.7 percent HR/FB rate, and both numbers are nearly certain to regress. For context, the league average BABIP is around .300 and the league average HR/FB rate is closer to 10 percent. Fitzgerald is a threat on the basepaths and should begin the season as an everyday player, so he does carry some fantasy appeal. But to expect production anywhere near last season's levels is likely a mistake.

Tyler Fitzgerald (chest) remains out of the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Rangers.

Fitzgerald will miss his second straight game on Sunday with a chest contusion. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. It’ll be rookie Christian Koss making another start at the keystone in his absence.

Tyler Fitzgerald was scratched from the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Rangers with a chest contusion.

Fitzgerald was playing second base and batting eighth in the original lineup. It’ll be rookie Christian Koss taking over at the keystone in his place. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.

Tyler Fitzgerald came up a single shy of the cycle and knocked in three runs Monday in the Giants’ 10-4 takedown of the Phillies.

Fitzgerald had two doubles, no homers and one RBI in 12 games coming into this one. Still, he had shown an improved approach of late. Fitzgerald struck out in 23 of his 50 plate appearances this spring, but he has that figure down to 10 in 47 plate appearances to start the regular season. We’re skeptical he’s going to reemerge as a quality mixed-league infielder this year, but he does offer enough speed and pop to be interesting. Part of the problem right now is that he’s hit ninth every time he’s played this season.

Tyler Fitzgerald is starting at second base on Monday after getting Sunday off.

Fitzgerald sat Sunday against a lefty, even though he’s a career .313/.355/.570 hitter against southpaws. He’s come in at .250/.309/.426 against righties, and the Giants are facing one of those tonight in Taijuan Walker.
