Bowden Francis struggled in Friday night’s loss to the Tigers, giving up four runs on eight hits over his 4 2/3 innings of work.
On the positive side, the right-hander racked up six strikeouts on the night while issuing a pair of free passes. Riley Greene did most of the damage against him, with a solo homer in the second inning and a two-run double in the fifth while Zach McKinstry also added a solo shot. Francis got 11 swings and misses on 95 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 26 percent. He’ll look to improve upon a miserable 5.63 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 36/13 K/BB ratio (46 1/3 innings) when he takes on the Padres on Thursday.
Bowden Francis worked 6 2/3 innings of three-run baseball against the Mariners on Saturday while not factoring into the decision.
He walked one and struck out five. Francis gave up a solo homer to Rowdy Tellez — the second homer he’s given up to Tellez this year, and it’s worth noting that the two were traded for each other a few years ago — an RBI double by Randy Arozarena, and a sac fly by Leody Taveras. The Blue Jays were able to come from behind to keep Francis from picking up a loss, and his ERA dropped to a still shaky 5.40 on the campaign. Francis will look to build on this outing against the Tigers on Friday.
Bowden Francis allowed four runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Guardians on Sunday.
Francis struck out two and walked one while posting just a 17 percent whiff rate and 23 percent CSW. Francis did get three whiffs on the splitter, but struggled to keep it in the zone and allowed an average exit velocity of 94 mph overall. He’s not a recommended stream next week against the Mariners.
Bowden Francis served up five home run balls and surrendered seven runs in three innings against the Red Sox on Tuesday.
Francis just couldn’t be hit last year, but he’s given up 11 homers while amassing a 5.28 ERA in six starts. The Jays aren’t at all likely to make a change just yet, but maybe they should stretch Yariel Rodríguez back out just in case they need to instigate a move. Francis is due to face the Guardians next time out.
