White Sox selected the contract of RHP Steven Wilson from Triple-A Charlotte.
Wilson will give the White Sox a fresh arm in the bullpen, and also hopefully a better one than Mike Clevinger, with Clevinger being designated for assignment in the corresponding move.
White Sox sent RHP Steven Wilson outright to Triple-A Charlotte.
Somewhat surprisingly, Wilson went unclaimed after being designated for assignment Friday. The right-hander will have to be added to the 40-man roster if Chicago deems him worthy of pitching for the White Sox to open 2025.
White Sox designated RHP Steven Wilson for assignment.
Wilson is booted off the 40-man roster after the White Sox claimed Brandon Eisert off waivers from the Rays. Wilson forged a 5.71 ERA in 34 2/3 innings, but has been successful in the past. A team could have interest in a trade/waiver claim knowing Wilson is only making $950,000 for the 2025 campaign.
White Sox and RHP Steven Wilson avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $950,000 contract.
There was a time last year when Wilson was considered a dark horse for saves in Chicago. Instead, he posted a 5.71 ERA in 34 2/3 innings and was placed on the IL with a back injury in August. The 30-year-old does have a career 4.03 ERA in 140 2/3 MLB innings, so he might be a useful reliever for the White Sox in 2025.
