Brewers activated RHP Nick Mears from the 15-day injured list.
Mears will be available out of Milwaukee’s bullpen for Tuesday’s showdown against the Rockies after missing the first handful of contests recovering from an illness.
Brewers placed RHP Nick Mears on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to March 24, with an illness.
Mears is better now, but since he lost a fair amount of weight and pitched only three innings this spring, he’ll start the year on a rehab assignment before joining the Brewers pen.
Nick Mears will open the season on the injured list due to illness.
Mears was extremely sick last week and will need some extra time to ramp back up before making his season debut. It doesn’t sound like he’ll require a lengthy absence, but the Brewers are going to have to carry another middle reliever on their season-opening roster.
Brewers and RHP Nick Mears avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $963,000 contract.
The 28-year-old right-hander struggled for the majority of the 2024 season, compiling a 5.93 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and a 75/24 K/BB ratio across 57 2/3 innings between the Rockies and Brewers. The high strikeout rate is enticing, Mears just needs to find a way to limit the hard contact if he’s ever going to move into a high-leverage role in the Brewers’ bullpen.
