José Caballero went 1-for-2 and drew a walk on Friday night as the Rays were shut out by Max Fried and the Yankees.
Caballero collected the Rays’ lone hit in the ballgame — a one-out single off of Max Fried in the fifth inning. He also drew a walk in the second inning but was then picked off of first base by the Yankees’ southpaw. On the season, the 28-year-old infielder is slashing .231/.324/.369 with a homer, 10 RBI and seven stolen bases.
José Caballero is on the bench for the Rays for a second straight game Tuesday.
Caballero, hitting .333/.455/.557 in 33 plate appearances, started four out of five games going into Monday, but then the Rays scored 16 runs without him last night and decided that, yeah, it might be a good idea to trot out that same lineup again. The one exception tonight is that Ben Rortvedt is giving Danny Jansen a day off behind the plate.
José Caballero went 1-or-3 with a grand slam in a win over the Angels on Wednesday.
Caballero’s home run was just 327 feet and left the bat at 95.1 mph, but it got the Rays out to a huge lead in the first inning. However, what’s more interesting here is that Caballero started the game in right field and then moved to third base in the later innings. With both Josh Lowe and Jonny DeLuca sidelined by injuries, Caballero could get more time in the outfield and pick up an extra position eligibility,y which would be huge for fantasy managers looking for speed.
José Caballero is starting in right field and batting sixth for the Rays against the Pirates on Wednesday.
Caballero played two innings in the outfield for the Mariners in 2023 but has no other MLB innings in the outfield before this year. With Ha-Seong Kim inching closer to a return, the ability for Caballero to move to the outfield would be huge for his ability to get into the lineup, especially with Josh Lowe (oblique) out for months. Kameron Misner will get the day off with Jake Mangum remaining in the lineup in left field.
