2025 Player Outlook
We didn't see much of Berroa in 2024 with the White Sox, but across 19 innings, he posted a 3.32 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and three holds. There was some hope earlier in his minor league career that his electric stuff could work as a starter, and he had good numbers, but his biggest impacts at the big league level, especially in 2025, is as a potentially dominant reliever. His fastball has good velo, and his slider was filthy last year, good for a .173 BAA and 43.4 percent whiff rate. He has the most fantasy appeal of any Chicago reliever, and should be excellent in the strikeout department. From a fantasy perspective, saves (and holds) could be tough to come by given the state of affairs in the White Sox organization, but he's worthy of a late-round flier in the hopes that he is the primary ninth inning man for Chicago in 2025.
Player News
White Sox moved RHP Prelander Berroa to the 60-day injured list.
Berroa was moved to the 60-day IL in a corresponding move to make room on the 40-man roster for Mike Vasil, who the White Sox claimed off waivers from the Rays. This doesn’t impact Berroa’s injury timetable as he was already set to miss the entire season with Tommy John surgery.
Prelander Berroa is going to require Tommy John surgery, the White Sox said.
Down goes a saves sleeper. Berroa, who was acquired from the Mariners a year ago, had a 3.32 ERA in 19 innings as a rookie last season. His wildness didn’t make him a great bet for this season, but he probably had the highest ceiling in the White Sox pen.
Prelander Berroa has a grade one elbow strain.
Berroad left Saturday’s game against the Cubs with elbow discomfort. Other than a completely clean MRI, a grade one elbow strain was the best news he could’ve hoped for. The 24-year-old right-hander’s elbow ligament is stretched, but not torn. His timetable to return is unclear at this time.
Prelander Berroa left Saturday’s game against the Cubs with right elbow discomfort.
Three words you never want to see, but especially this early in spring. Berroa exited with a trainer, and the right-hander will likely need to undergo imaging to determine the severity of the injury.
