Pete Fairbanks tossed a perfect ninth inning on Saturday against the Yankees to notch his seventh save of the season.
Fairbanks was summoned to protect a one-run lead in the final frame and managed to coax harmless ground outs from Ben Rice, Paul Goldschmidt and Austin Wells to preserve the victory. The 31-year-old righty needed just 11 pitches (six strikes) in this one. He’s converted all seven of his save opportunities this season to re-establish himself as one of the better closing options in the fantasy landscape.
Pete Fairbanks turned in a perfect ninth against the Padres for his sixth save Sunday.
Fairbanks retired Xander Bogaerts, Oscar Gonzalez and Yuli Gurriel in order. He has a win and three saves over the last four days. Fortunately, the Rays don’t play tomorrow, since Fairbanks would surely be unavailable if they did.
