Adley Rutschman is not in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Royals.
It appears to be a routine day off for Rutschman, who has caught six of Baltimore’s first eight contest while occupying the DH spot in the other two. He’s hitting .258 (8-for-31) with two homers and three RBI so far. It’ll be Gary Sánchez handling the catching duties on Saturday afternoon against the Royals.
Adley Rutschman cranked a pair of long homers and singled against the Blue Jays on Thursday.
Both were bombs, traveling a projected 436 and 415 feet. It’s Rutschman’s third career two-homer game. Oddly enough, all have come against the Jays. His first today came off José Berríos. On May 13 of last year, he homered twice off Berríos.
Adley Rutschman went 1-for-3 and swatted a three-run homer on Thursday night, but it wasn’t enough to propel the Orioles past the Yankees.
Rutschman victimized Yankees’ right-hander Will Warren for his three-run blast in the third inning, pulling the O’s to within a run at 5-4. That would be as close as they would get. The 27-year-old backstop is having a terrific spring at the plate, hitting .361 (13-for-36) with three long balls and eight RBI. He’s being selected as the second catcher off the board on average in fantasy drafts this spring, behind only William Contreras.
Adley Rutschman homered, walked and scored twice against the Red Sox on Monday.
Rutschman is 3-for-8 with two walks in four games this spring. He really struggled at the plate in the second half of last season, probably in part due to a hand injury. It seems likely that he’ll bounce back, but the Orioles may think about dropping him from his usual second spot in the order if he doesn’t start off quickly this season.
