José Tena delivered a go-ahead two-run double in the bottom of the seventh as the Nationals edged the Guardians 10-9 in the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader.
That had to feel really good for Tena against his former team. The third baseman’s hit broke an 8-8 tie immediately after a Dylan Crews double took away the Guardians’ lead. The hit was Tena’s first in 16 at-bats since Apr. 28. He’s back in the lineup for the nightcap, which is something we’re not sure would have happened if not for the heroics.
José Tena had a triple and two doubles against the Orioles on Tuesday.
Pretty good for someone who couldn’t buy his way into the lineup until Paul DeJong joined CJ Abrams on the IL. Hopefully, Tena, who was 3-for-17 on the season coming into the night, can get on a nice little run here and stick as the Nationals’ third baseman against righties after DeJong returns.
José Tena singled and walked Sunday in the Nationals’ 2-1 win over the Cardinals.
The Nationals haven’t announced their final moves yet, but it’s likely Tena versus Juan Yepez for the last position-player spot. Tena would make sense as a platoon partner for Paul DeJong, but since the Nationals won’t go that route initially, Yepez’s stronger bat might be the call.
Jose Tena went 1-for-3 with two RBI in a win over the Mets on Saturday.
Tena doubled home Paul DeJong and Nathaniel Lowe to give the Nats a 4-1 lead. The 23-year-old infielder has scuffled this spring, but maybe this is the kick he needs to finish the Grapefruit League hot heading into Opening Day. Still, it’s concerning to see a slash of .138/.194/.172, and Tena is far from a lock to make the Nationals out of Florida.
