Otto Lopez went 2-for-4 with a solo homer on Monday in a loss to the Mets.

Lopez gave Miami an early advantage when he took Mets lefty David Peterson deep in the opening frame. It was his second big fly on the young season. The 26-year-old doesn’t boast a ton of over-the-fence power potential, but he’s off to a really nice start at the dish.

Otto Lopez went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk on Friday against the Pirates.

Lopez took David Bednar deep in the ninth inning to bring his Marlins within one run, but it was too little too late. Never known for his power, Lopez’s strong defense should be enough to keep him in the lineup every day without much meaningful competition for playing time in Miami. He’s only worth a look in the deepest of leagues though.

Otto Lopez contributed his first two homers of the spring as the Marlins blasted the Cardinals 12-5 on Tuesday.

One of the homers was a wind-aided fly that Statcast said would have been a homer in zero of the 30 big-league parks. The first, through, left his bat at 103.6 mph and traveled 395 feet. Plucked off the scrap heap, Lopez was a fine second baseman for the Marlins last season, hitting .270/.313/.377 with 20 steals in 434 plate appearances. He’s set to keep the job this year, though if anyone wants to make the Marlins a trade offer, he could surely be had.

Lopez’s solo shot provided the Marlins’ only offense in this game. That was his fifth long ball of the season and second in a week. Before that last one, he hadn’t homered since May 13th in what was a prolonged power drought.
