Tanner Banks allowed three runs on three hits in 1 1/3 innings in a loss to the Cubs on Tuesday.
Banks was starting in place of Taijuan Walker, who also pitched poorly in relief. The Phillies likely won’t rely on either for meaningful innings during the postseason.

Banks bolsters Philadelphia’s left-handed relief depth as a low-cost insurance policy and has been excellent as a weapon against southpaws this year. It’s ostensibly a one-for-one swap as the Phillies shipped fellow lefty Gregory Soto out to Baltimore in another deadline deal.
The White Sox and Phillies are reportedly swapping reliever Tanner Banks and prospect William Bergolla.
Banks was the surest thing in the White Sox pen, a lefty with a 4.13 ERA in 48 innings this season. He would have been very much in the mix for saves the rest of the way, but he’ll have a lesser role in Philadelphia.
Tanner Banks struck out two over a scoreless 10th to get a save against the Mariners on Thursday.
