The Diamondbacks needed room on the active roster for Ketel Marte (hamstring), so the D-Backs optioned Barrosa back to the minors. The 24-year-old could be back at some point as a depth option in 2025.

The 24-year-old drew a start in center field and batted ninth against Mets’ left-hander David Peterson on Tuesday evening. He got the Diamondbacks on the board with a run-scoring double off of Peterson in the fifth inning, then drove in the team’s final run with a ground out in the ninth. He’s just 2-for-12 (.167) with three RBI in his limited action with the Diamondbacks.

Barrosa, not top prospect Jordan Lawlar, gets the call to the majors ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the Rays in the wake of Jake McCarthy’s demotion to Triple-A Reno. The 24-year-old outfielder figures to platoon with Alek Thomas in center field moving forward.

Barrosa went 1-for-7 in five days with the Diamondbacks.
